Dr. D.S. Sengar, is the Director/Vice Chancellor of The Indian Law Institute, New Delhi. Before joining ILI, he was the Vice Chancellor of MLS University, Udaipur. Formerly he was Professor of Law and founder Chairman, Legal Management Group at Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow. He got his doctoral degree in Environmental Law from the University of Lucknow. He was Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute's Fellow at University of Calgary, Canada and a Senior Fulbright Fellow at The George Washington University Law School, Washington D.C. Dr. Sengar was awarded the Fulbright Alumni Grant Award from the U.S. Department of State for promoting Enviro-legal awareness among youth in India.  

Dr. Sengar has more than 27 years of academic, administrative and professional experience at various prestigious institutions in the country and overseas. He has contributed to several prestigious institutions in U.S.A, U.K., Canada, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam. He has a number of publications including books, chapters in books, reports, research papers and articles in prestigious journals. His book on 'Environmental Law', published by the Prentice-Hall of India, has been well received. He was a Consultant for the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India and presently serves on a number of Committees and Boards including the State Environmental Appraisal Committee under the Ministry of Environment and Forest, GOI.  

Dr. Sengar has experience of conducting high impact Management Development Programmes for senior executives in industry, government & academia. His area of interest includes Environmental Law, Intellectual Property Rights Law, Business Law and Arbitration Law etc. He is member of various prestigious academic and professional bodies in India and abroad including The Indian Society of International Law and The American Society of International Law.

Dr. Sengar was the founder Chairman of the Committee for Social Initiatives at IIM, Lucknow. At ILI, he has constituted a student driven 'Committee for Social Initiatives' and has introduced the concept of 'Connecting Class to Community' under its Outreach programme for LL.M. students.

 

Profile of Faculty

Dr. S. Sivakumar is Research Professor. He did his B.Sc. (Physics), LL.B., LL.M. and his doctoral work is on 'Law and Media'. He is the recipient of National Law Day Award, 2008 for his contribution in legal education reforms activities. He has taught for several years in prestigious educational institutions including National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata and Hidayattulla National Law University, Raipur. He was the Officiating Director of Indian Law Institute from 5th January, 2009 to 10th July, 2009. He has published many articles in reputed national and international research journals and presented several papers in national and international conferences. His projects on "Criminal Justice Administration in Chhattisgarh" and "Criminal Justice Administration in Kerala" have been published as books. He is the member of International Steering Committee of the Global Alliance for Justice Education to represent South and Central Asia ( including the Mid-East) in GAJE and is the President of Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) Asia- India. He is Member of Academic Council of Gujarat National Law University, National University of Advanced Legal Studies and A.P. University of Law; Academic Planning Board Member of Chanakya National Law School, Rajiv Gandhi National Law School; and Member of other statutory bodies of Universities. He is also the visiting professor of University of Georgia, USA and Member of International Judicial Training Programme Advisory Board of Institute of Continuing Judicial Education of University of Georgia (UGA) School of Law. He is Member- Co-ordinator of ILI Restatement of Indian Law Project Committee and various Supreme Court Committees constituted by Hon'ble Chief Justice of India like National Committee on Cyber Law Enforcement, Para Legal Programme and Access to Justice Programme for North Eastern Region. He is honorary Programme Advisor to National Legal Services Authority.

  

 

 

Dr. Thomas Paul is Associate Research Professor. He passed his Graduation with Distinction from North Eastern Hill University, Shillong. He did his Master's Degree in Law from Nagpur University and Diploma in Labour Law from the Indian Law Institute. He was awarded LL.D. Degree by the Meerut University, for his thesis "Laws relating to Child Labour". He has substantially contributed to many publications of the Institute. He has been the Co-Editor of the Journal of the Indian Law Institute for a number of years. He has contributed a large number of research articles in leading law Journals in the country and abroad. He is currently the Co-Editor of the Annual Survey of Indian Law. He also regularly contributes a survey on "Labour Law - II (Social Security Legislation)". He has special interest in labour laws. He is a member of the Academic Council, ILI and Coordinator of LL.M. (2 Year Course) and PG Diploma in Labour Law.

 

 

 

Dr. Furqan Ahmad is Associate Research Professor. He did his M.A. (Sociology), LL. M. (Family Law), and Ph.D. (Environmental Law). He has also obtained Post Graduate Diploma in various important fields like Mass Media, Statistics, Civil Engineering, International law, and Tax Law etc. His subjects of specialization are Environment Law and Family Law. He has written a book on family law titled "Triple Talaq: An Analytical Study with emphasis on Socio Legal Aspects", which received good reviews in various national and international legal journals. Recently he has contributed a book on Environmental Law titled 'Legal Regulation of Hazardous. He has also contributed more than forty articles including book reviews particularly on Muslim Law, Environmental Law and Human Rights Law in national and international journals. He has taught Environment Law at National Law Institute University, Bhopal and Muslim Law in Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He has been closely associated with the various training programmes and has presented several papers on Environment Law, Muslim Law and Human Rights Law in number of national and international seminars/workshops. The Calcutta University awarded prestigious medal for one of his articles published in the Journal of Indian Law Institute titled "Origin and Growth of Environmental Law in India". He has also coordinated and actively participated in various international projects organized by Indian Law Institute e.g. project on water law and policy sponsored by Ford Foundation, environmental law projects and some other projects run by the ILI.

 

 

 

Dr. S.S. Jaswal is Assistant Research Professor is, LL.M. Ph.D. from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. His area of interest is Constitutional Law. His doctrol thesis is on Reservation Policy on Scheduled Castes: A Socio-Legal Study". He had worked with Law Commission of Himachal Pradesh, Lokayukta Himachal Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh State Human Rights Commission as Law Officer. He also taught in Himachal Pradesh University Regional Centre, Dharmashala. He has to his credit two books on "Child Labour and the Law" and "Reservation Policy and the Law". He has written articles on wide range of subjects in leading law journals and participated in various National and Internatinoal Seminar/ Conferences. He has been coordinating various training programme/courses such as Retreat Programme for Hon'ble Members of Armed Force Tribunal, Mediation Training Programme organized by Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee of Supreme Court, UGC Sponsored Refresher Course for Law Teachers and Training Programme for Government Attorney from Nepal.

 

 

Dr.(Mrs.) Jyoti Dogra Sood is Assistant Research Professor (Sr. Grade). She did her Ph. D from Panjab University and LL.M. and LL.B. from H.P. University. She was ranked 2nd in B.A. (Hons.). She is a gold medallist in LL.B. and received Ramkishan Punchi Memorial Scholarship for academic excellence. Her area of interest is Criminal Law, which she has been teaching for the last 5 years. She has contributed various articles in national and international journals and have presented papers. She was appointed Visiting Research Fellow in the University of New South Wales in 2009 for a period of three years. She has been associated with the Journal of the Indian Law Institute for the last 8 years. She is the coordinator for LL.M. - 2 Year Course. She is also a member of the Academic Council of Indian Law Institute.

 

 

 

Ms. Versha Vahini is Assistant Research Professor. After finishing LLM from National Law School of India University, Bangalore, she taught at NUJS, Kolkata and NLIU, Bhopal for two years before joining ILI. She has been involved in research on various issues, teaching LLM and coordinating of PG Diploma courses and Online course on IPRs apart from organising seminars and workshops and training programs. (Latest being Training Programme for Attorneys from Nepal in April). She has submitted her Ph.D. thesis on "Anti-competitive Agreement" and is currently working on "Right to Information Act, 2005". Apart from this, she has participated in All India Law Congress 2010 held in March in Punjab University, Chandigarh.

 

Ms. Jaya V.S. is Assistant Research Professor has done her B.A.L., LL.B. from University of Kerala and L.L.M. with specialisation in Commercial Laws and Human Rights Laws from Cochin University of Science and Technology, Cochin securing First Rank with Gold Medal. She has worked with Indian Council of Arbitration, New Delhi and has also taught in the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. She has published a number of articles on various subjects of law and her area of doctoral research is Comparative Law of International Commercial Arbitration. Her areas of interest include Commercial Laws, Customs and Central Excise Laws, Alternate Dispute Resolution Mechanisms and Humanitarian Law.

 

 

Mr. Vishnu Konoorayar K. is Assistant Research Professor has done B.A.(L), LL.B. from Mangalore University and LL.M. from Cochin University of Science and Technology, Cochin with specialization in Human Rights Laws and Commercial Laws. He has contributed a number of articles in various branches of law and presented papers in national and international conferences. He has worked as a Lecturer in School of Legal Studies, Kannur University, Kerala and WB NUJS, Kolkata. He has got special interest in studying the impact of Information Technology in legal research and teaching. He is currently working on "Fairness in International Environmental Law with Special Reference to Climate Change Regime."   

 

 

 

Mr. P. Puneeth is Assistant Research Professor has done his B.A.L., LL.B (Five Year Integrated Course) and LL.M. from Bangalore University, Karnataka. His subject of specialization is Constitutional Law and Legal Order. Presently he is also pursuing Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Department of Law, Bangalore University on the topic "Impact of Global Regulatory Regime on Indian Constitution: A Critical Study". His areas of interest are Constitutional Law and Administrative Law. Presently, he is the Assistant Editor of the Journal of the Indian Law Institute and also the course coordinator for LL.M. (Evening) - 3 Year Course. He has participated in many national and international seminars and conferences and presented papers in couple of national seminars. Before joining the Institute, he was practising as an Advocate at High Court of Karnataka, Bangalore and also worked as Lecturer at Dr. RML College of Law, Bangalore.

 

Ms. Arya A. Kumar is Assistant Research Professor, has done her BA-LL.B. (Hons) from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala and LL.M. from Cochin University of Science & Technology with specialization in Human Rights and Consumer Laws. Her Area of interest includes Human Rights law, Women & Law, Consumer Protection Laws, Jurisprudence, Legal Research Methodology & Securities and Banking Laws etc. She has contributed surveys on 'Education law and Public Interest Litigation' and a number of articles in various branches of Law and presented papers in national and international conferences. She has done projects on "Judicial Pronouncements on Parliament and State Legislatures" and "Digest of case law on Centre State Relations post Sarkaria Commission". She has worked as a Lecturer in National Law Institute University, Bhopal before joining ILI. Presently she is pursuing Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) from School of legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala on the topic "Bio-Terrorism and the Right to Health: A Study from the Human Rights Context". She is the programme co-ordinator of Online course on Cyber Law being conducted by the Indian Law Institute.

 

Profile of Registrar


Mr. Dalip Kumar is Registrar of the Institute has done his B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. (Chemistry) from Hans Raj College, Delhi; Master of Engineering with distinction from Delhi College of Engineering and LL.B. from University of Delhi. He has more than 28 years of experience in academics and educational administration. Important positions held by him include: Deputy Registrar, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University; Deputy Director, Directorate of Training and Technical Education, Govt. of NCT Delhi; Administrative Officer, DIHMC, Ministry of Tourism and Project Coordinator of the World Bank assisted Technician Education Project. Govt. of NCT Delhi deputed him for three months training course on Environmental Pollution Control in the Technical University Halifax, Canada.
